For small wood-burning stoves, 25–33 cm is ideal. Larger tiled stoves or boilers usually use 50 cm logs.
Only firewood that is ready for the stove and has a moisture content of less than 20 per cent burns cleanly, without producing soot, and achieves the optimum calorific value.
Store the timber in a place sheltered from the rain and with good ground ventilation to prevent residual moisture.
